NOTHING IN THE WOOD

(NORTHAMPTON · USA · 2017)

(SOCIALLY-ENGAGED ART INSTALLATION)

Nothing in the Wood is an outdoor installation made of four pine tree trunks transported ”from elsewhere” with circular mirrors covering the cut tops. These trees are partially hidden, blending into their new habitat with a gently skewed perspective. Passers-by are invited to catch fleeting angles of light and sky in this half-natural and half-artificial scene. As participants wipe out the drops of water from the melting snow to discover a new vision under the mirror, this week-long documentation touches upon a subtle while intertwining layer of fabric between the manmade, the nature, the undecided and human actions, and such sculptural work allows me to look for ephemeral gestures that bring new moments of attention and observation within public space.
